Parking & transport

Is there parking at the cottages?

Yes. Each cottage has its own dedicated onsite parking space, included with your stay. If you are booking both cottages, there is room for multiple cars.

What is the nearest train station?

Axminster is approximately 20 minutes by road and is served by regular South Western Railway services from London Waterloo and Exeter. Taxis from the station are readily available.

There is no dedicated EV charging on site. Chard (10 minutes) has public charging points, and further options are available in Axminster and Taunton.

Pets

Are pets or dogs allowed?

No. Lakehayes operates a strict no pets and no dogs policy. This is due to animals living on the property and in the surrounding grounds. We appreciate your understanding.

Group bookings

Can we book both cottages together?

Yes. You can book Pippin Cottage and The Cider Barn together for a combined maximum of 6 guests. Each cottage has its own private entrance and self-contained facilities. Visit our Stay Together page for more information.

The cottages

Can the Cider Barn bedroom be configured as twin beds?

Yes. One of the two bedrooms in The Cider Barn can be set up as twin beds on request. Simply add a note when you make your booking and we will arrange it for your arrival.

Is WiFi available?

Yes. Free WiFi is available in both Pippin Cottage and The Cider Barn.

What is provided in the cottages?

Both cottages include bed linen, towels, a fully equipped kitchen, Smart TV, and all the essentials you need for a self-catering holiday. A welcome pack is also provided on arrival. For a full list of what is included, see the individual cottage pages.

Is there a washing machine?

The cottages do not have their own washing machines. For longer stays, we can advise on the nearest launderette in Chard. Please get in touch if this is important for your trip.

Are children welcome?

Yes, children are welcome at Lakehayes. Please note that there is a stream and paddock in the grounds, so parental supervision is advised for younger children.

Are cots or travel beds available?

We do not currently provide cots or travel beds, so please bring your own if needed. If you have questions about suitability for very young children, please get in touch before booking.

What is the nearest supermarket?

Chard is approximately 10 minutes away and has a Tesco, Co-op and several other shops for stocking up on arrival. There are also good farm shops and delis in the wider area.

The area

What is the nearest beach?

Charmouth (approximately 25 minutes drive) and Lyme Regis (approximately 30 minutes) are the closest beaches. Both are on the Jurassic Coast and excellent for families, fossil hunters, and anyone who enjoys a coastal walk.

Is there a pub within walking distance?

Yes. Ye Olde Poppe Inn in Tatworth is just a five-minute stroll from the cottages — close enough to walk there for the evening without needing to drive.

What is there to do locally for families?

The area has plenty for families: fossil hunting and beaches at Charmouth and Lyme Regis, walking in the Blackdown Hills AONB, farm shops, Chard reservoir nearby, and easy day trips to Exeter and Taunton. The Jurassic Coast is one of the most family-friendly coastlines in England.
